Tribute page
Lest we forget those who have gone before us…
This page is dedicated to the fond memories of the members of Post 7979 that are no longer with us to share in the friendship and camaraderie. We honor their service to this Post as well as our Country.
In Flander's Field
by John McCrae
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow,
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead.
Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved and now we lie,
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw,
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us, who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow,
In Flanders Fields.
It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag, Serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag who allows the protester to burn the flag.
