Brief history of Post 7979 in Evart, Michigan

The VFW is a Veterans Service Organization locally providing direct community support through a multitude of programs and services. We are an organization that extends well beyond the realm of veterans helping veterans. We donate thousands of hours of volunteer time also lending financial support to local as well as national programs deemed worthy by our membership.

 

Post 7979 actively pursues an agenda of Patriotic Citizenship as well as promoting an attitude of pride, and honor for those that have served in our nations military in the past as well as the present.

  Post 7979 was chartered in Evart, MI on 23, March 1986, with 61 original members. Today Post 7979 has a membership of 109 Our hall is located just minutes out of town. From the traffic light in Evart turn south on Main Street, continue on Main Street across the river bridge. Immediately after the bridge stay left at the Y. The Hall is located approximately 1 mile out of town on the south side in the curve. Originally built by the Evart J C’s club in 1972, the Hall was purchased by the VFW in 1988 The hall has undergone several construction phases in recent years that include a large addition that house a permanent meeting room and office as well as the addition of a large covered porch at the main entrance of the hall. Post 7979 has no Bar, nor do we serve alcohol at any of our Post functions, our post functions are also Smoke Free.

Message from Commander Brickey

Welcome to the web site of VFW Post 7979 that has been created by the diligence and expertise of Past Commander Mark Wilson.

 

Many thanks to all active members of VFW Post 7979 for their hard work and dedication and also to the wives and friends of the VFW who donate their time and labor at our various functions. 

 

We welcome all veterans in the area to join us in our efforts to improve and expand our post which will allow us to provide better service to veterans, their families, and our community.

 

I would appreciate any suggestions of how we may improve our organization and welcome your comments.

Current Events

Our regular business meetings are the second and forth Monday of each month starting at 7:00 PM in the meeting room at the hall.

 

Bingo is every Wednesday with the Early Bird starting at 6:00 PM at the hall.

 

All you can eat Pancake breakfast on the 2nd Sunday of each month , running from 7:00 till 11:00 AM. $6.00.  

Membership Requirments

Who is Eligible to Join the VFW?
The VFW welcomes everyone who is a US citizen, was honorably discharged, or is currently serving in the U.S. armed forces, and meets at least one of the follow criteria:
  • Was awarded a campaign or service medal for serving overseas in a combat zone;
  • Served 30 consecutive days, or a total of 60 days, in Korea; or
  • Received Imminent Danger/Hostile Fire Pay.
